COVID-19 update as of April 2, 2021

Dear friends of Girls Choral Academy,

Wow! What a year this has been! Never would we have thought when this first started a year ago that we would still be experiencing this virus. Through this past year, the Girls Choral Academy has weathered this storm, continuing to offer programming albeit in a very different form than before.

At this point, we are continuing to provide programming, adhering strictly to the guidelines and recommendations of the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as our local, state and national governments.  In fact, we just finished our Winter Session, teaching basic keyboarding/piano lessons to four different groups every Monday and Tuesday evening at a place called “Lions and Rabbits” on Plainfield. This current session concluded at the end of March. Beginning on April 12th we will start a Spring Session, where we will again be singing (with all of the necessary mitigations). This session will lead to a final outdoor concert on Sunday, June 6.

For the past 12 months, the GCA has been involved with the Grand Rapids Arts Working Group (GRAWR), which represents a collective of twenty Grand Rapids-based arts and culture organizations. This collaborative and community-facing working group now allows us to speak with a shared voice regarding the challenges posed by COVID-19, the role the arts can play in supporting our community, and steps we can take to ensure the continued vibrancy of arts and culture in West Michigan. Please read our joint statement HERE.

We treasure all of you and urge you to continue to take the precautions to protect you and your family as detailed at coronavirus.org.
