Hello!
I'm Penny and I'm the Director of Development and Communications.
You can reach me via email at penny@girlschoralacademy.org
Penny joins GCA after dedicating nearly two decades to the field of criminal justice while maintaining an Event Planning business, The Penny Loafer, and being involved in her first true love of music. A graduate of Grand Valley State University, Penny returns to her roots in Michigan from Chicago and brings her entrepreneurial experience of specializing in planning and hosting large events, and five decades of music performance, education, and direction.
She began her extensive musical background beginning at the age of five when she sang during Christmas with her dad's band at an orphanage in Saginaw, MI and since then has added piano, oboe, flute, bassoon, and percussion to her music knowledgebase. Penny has served as faculty at Franciscan Rhythms Music Studio in Ada, MI, Music Matters in Batavia, IL, and as a substitute Assistant Music Director for the Belding School System.
Penny is the Assistant Director for the Grand Rapids Chorus of Sweet Adelines, a non-profit organization that focuses on singing in the barbershop style, with whom she has been involved since 1981. With this organization she is a composer, music arranger, coach, section leader, and a member of the Management and Music Teams.
Outside of GCA, Penny is a volunteer at the Van Andel Arena throughout the year in concessions with other members of the Grand Rapids Chorus of Sweet Adelines and spends time hanging out with her cat, "Gracie".
