Girls Choral Academy hosts their annual “Giving Girls a Voice” benefit

On November 12, 2024 at 6:00 pm, the halls of the Wege Ballroom on the grounds of the magnificent Aquinas College were filled with music, laughter and joy as we celebrated our annual Giving Girls A Voice benefit, "Let Their Voices Be Heard." Over 120 of our fans and supporters filled the room and enjoyed an elegant evening of fine dining, beautiful ambiance, and a music program featuring the GCA choirs to celebrate this year's honorees, Bob and Mikki Clay. Pillars of our community, these two humanitarians have helped to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of young girls by providing funding and support for education, travel, uniforms, and tuition.
Emcees this year were the incomparable Shelley Irwin, TV and Radio personality, and Alexis Rocha, local business owner, former chef, and girl-dad. The engaging and witty dialogue kept the room full of laughter and set off the evening with a warm welcome and acknowledgement of this year's major donors, among them, Pridgeon and Clay, The Grand Rapids Urban League, Comerica, 5/3 Bank, Lake Michigan Credit Union, and Warner, Norcross and Judd.

Entertainment included featured numbers from West Side Story, Wicked, a groovy rendition of "September" by Earth, Wind, and Fire, and a special duet with Kristen Moss and Kevin Clay and all songs were accompanied by the fabulous pianist, John Conway.

The Girls Choral Academy annual donor benefit is a celebration of our community’s commitment to providing music education and opportunities to young girls. With the support of our partners and sponsors, we aim to nurture the many gifts and talents these bright young girls possess.

The Girls Choral Academy, located at 2920 Fuller Ave NE, #104, Grand Rapids, MI 49505, was invited to sing during the very special and highly anticipated groundbreaking event for the new Joan Secchia Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital, which will be located across Wealthy St. from Mary Free Bed in downtown Grand Rapids. A very special thanks to Joan Secchia, Senator Winnie Brinks, and Congresswoman Hillary J Scholten for taking a minute to empower these ladies with wonderful words of wisdom and a photo opportunity. And to top it off, the choir performed The Beautiful Rain just as the rain started as a backdrop to their voices.
